We are proud to communicate that our company has joined an R&D EU Project, called AgROBOfood, in which we act as end-users and validators of a very interesting technology specifically developed to digitalize the honey industry.

The Consortium is built by Sonicat Systems (the technology provider), and 3 end-users from Romania, Cyprus, and Norway. Our laboratory personnel will test and validate the first intelligent microscope to perform on-site automated honey quality analysis.

As honey packers, we identify this novelty as a step towards best practices and the increase of quality honey products. Because of this, we´d join the project by becoming partners.

Honey.AI (www.honey-ai.com) is an affordable laboratory equipment that works with automated light microscopy and artificial intelligence and allows us to analyze our own honey on-site without sending the samples to external labs.  Honey.AI can be used by non-trained staff and is easy to use. Our role in AgROBOfood Project is to use Honey.AI at our premises from June to November 2021 with our honey samples.

After a simple process in which we prepare the honey sample, Honey.AI microscope can perform 3 types of analysis: pollen analysis, crystallization rate and yeast counting. The analysis can take from 5 to 90 minutes.

To validate the accuracy of the system, we compare the result obtained in each test with the results obtained by the melissopalynologist of Sonicat Systems, as well as with the formal results received from one external accredited lab.

The Consortium expects to have the whole system ready to reach the market by 2022.

“This project has received funding from the European Union´s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme, through an Open Call issued and executed under the project agROBOfood (Grant Agreement No  825395”).
